About Me

My name is Erik Simon, and I am a 23-year-old who recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science, focusing on game development.

During my studies, I gained a solid foundation in game development and design, applying these skills in both academic projects and personal ones, as well as in various types of group projects.

My primary focus has been on game systems and game AI, particularly using classical approaches to the latter. However, I have gained experience in developing nearly every aspect of a game, having been the lead developer and designer on my own projects before expanding my team.

I am fluent in both German and English. German is my native language, while English has been my primary language for most of my life and the language in which I completed my studies.

I have participated in various projects, both academic and personal. In many of these, I took on leadership roles, managing workflows and timelines at different stages of the projects.

These projects include student game development initiatives and various game jams, both in person and online.

HARD SKILLS

C# Programming (5/6)

I have several years of experience in C#, and it is the primary language I prefer working with for both private and team projects.

Unity game engine (5/6)

Unity is the game engine I first learned development with, and it is usually my go-to choice for projects unless I require specific features that Unity cannot easily achieve.

Most of the projects in my portfolio feature this engine, with the notable exception of the dungeon crawler project.

Game design document writing (4/6)

I have written several Game Design Documents during my work as a game designer, most of which were for my own projects. These documents outline tasks to be completed, their respective timelines, and consolidate information about the project into one place to ensure all considerations are examined together and checked for consistency within the context of the project.

Git (4/6)

I have used Git and GitHub extensively during my projects for version control, data backup, and the ability to work on multiple aspects of a project simultaneously.

Miro, Slack, Trello (3/6)

I have utilized these platforms primarily during my work as a project lead to manage teams of up to seven participants, ensuring task tracking was accomplished and simplifying the process of staying updated on individual progress through regular meetings, both one-on-one and with the team.

C++ Programming (3/6)

Unreal game engine (3/6)

Product testing (3/6)

SOFT SKILLS

Project management (4/6)

I have led various projects both during my studies and as an independent developer, several of which can be found in the portfolio showcase section.

Conflict resolution in teams (3/6)

During my time as a project lead, I have encountered several cultural and work ethic-related challenges within the teams I’ve led. I have consistently found solutions to these issues, enabling the project to move forward successfully.

Project time managment (4/6)

For each project I have led, whether individual or team-based, I have managed timelines to ensure tasks were completed on schedule. Additionally, I regularly gathered feedback on progress to determine if any extensions were needed for the respective projects.
